License upgrade process

All licenses can be upgraded to a higher-tier license (except for the Agency license, because there is no higher tier license available, and Agency is pretty much an unlimited website usage license). Not only that, but you can upgrade from a single plugin license to a club license, and even if you have few individual plugin licenses, they can all be upgraded to a club license.

Upgrade any license to a higher-tier license

This is the most common case – you have a license for a plugin (or club), and you want to upgrade from a lower-tier license to a higher one. With this, you can upgrade from a Single license to a Freelance, Studio, or Agency license; you can upgrade from a Freelance license to Studio or Agency license and from Studio to Agency license. There are two cases here: upgrading your annual license (subscription or manual renewal license) or upgrading your lifetime license.

If you upgrade your annual license, you will get a pro-rated discount based on the license’s remaining time. For instance, you paid for the license $99.00 for one year. After 4 months, you decide to upgrade from Single ($99.00) to Studio license ($249.00). Now, you have 8 months remaining on the license, and for that, you will get a $66.00 discount, and instead of paying $249.00 for an upgraded license, you will pay $183.00. And, the old license will be terminated, and the new license starts a new one-year cycle.

If you upgrade your annual license to the same tier lifetime license (Single Annual to Single Lifetime), it is the same: you get a pro-rated discount for the remaining time of the license. So, a Single Annual license is $99.00, a Single Lifetime license $299.00. After 4 months, you decide to upgrade, you get a $66.00 discount, and instead of $299.00, you pay $233.00.

If you have a Lifetime license and want to upgrade to a higher-tier Lifetime license, you can’t get a pro-rated discount because there is no expiration of the license. So, if you paid $299.00 for a Single Lifetime license, and you want to upgrade to a Freelance Lifetime license (priced $449.00), you will get a full price discount for the existing license, and you will pay only the difference between the two licenses: $150.00.

Upgrade plugin license to club license

Dev4Press has 3 Club licenses: bbPress Plugins, Rating Plugin, and Dev4Press Plugins. Let’s say you have the license for GD bbPress Toolbox Pro, and you want to upgrade to the bbPress Plugins Club license. You have a Single Annual license (you paid $59.00 for it), and you want to upgrade to the bbPress Plugins Freelance Lifetime license (priced at $629.00). You have 6 months remaining on your license so that you will get a $29.50 discount, and the upgrade price will be $599.50.

All plugins or addons can be upgraded to the Dev4Press Plugins Club license. bbPress related plugins can be upgraded to the bbPress Plugins Club license. The GD Rating System Pro plugin (and its addons) can be upgraded to Rating Plugin Club License.

Upgrade multiple plugins to club license

If you have two bbPress related plugins: GD bbPress Toolbox Pro and GD Topic Polls Pro, and you want to upgrade both licenses to one bbPress Plugins Club license, you can do that too! Again, you get a pro-rated discount for the remaining time for the annual license or fully paid the price for a lifetime license. If you have a GD bbPress Toolbox Pro Single Lifetime license ($17900), ave GD Topic Polls Pro Freelance Subscription license ($59.00) with 6 months remaining, you will get a total discount of $179.00 + $29.50 = $208.50. You want to upgrade to the bbPress Plugins Club Freelance Lifetime license ($629.00), you will pay $420.50.

How the upgrades are done

To start the upgrade process, go to your Dev4Press dashboard: my.dev4press.com. Open the Licenses page, and go to the Upgrade tab. You will see all the valid upgrade paths, and list of discounts for every license, and possible upgrades for every combination. First, you will see upgrades to the Club licenses (if available), and at the bottom, you will see individual license upgrades. Simple select which license you to want to upgrade, and click Upgrade Now under the selection, and you will be taken to the checkout page where you complete the payment process.

Few more things to know

Here are few more important things you need to know when it comes to upgrading.

1. Discounts calculation is based on the price you paid, not the actual price of the plugin license! Your plugin with the price of $99.00 is to be upgraded, but you used a 20% discount, and you paid $79.20 for the license; the base price used for calculating the discount will be $79.20, not $99.00.
2. The license you upgrade to can’t be with a lower value than the value of the discount. If you have a discount of $208.50 based on the licenses you have, you can only upgrade to a license that has a value of at least $208.50. The new price with subtracted discount has to be higher than 0.
