Theme Installation & Update

All Dev4Press themes can be installed into WordPress using different methods. This includes use of specialized Dev4Press Updater plugin (it can install and update plugins and themes), using WordPress directly or using FTP. All three methods can be used for theme update.

When it comes to update, it is important to know that even if you remove Dev4Press theme, all theme settings remain in the database, so when you update it later, it will pick up old settings.

Install through Dev4Press Updater

  1. Setup Dev4Press Updater plugin following instructions.
  2. Open Dev4Press menu, Install New panel.
  3. You will see the list of products you have a license for.
  4. Select plugin you want to install, and click Install Now link.
  5. Plugin will be installed, and you will get option to activate it.

Update through Dev4Press Updater

Once you setup the Dev4Press Updater plugin, it will notify you once the update is available. And, when this plugin finds an update, update is done as with other WordPress themes (directly from WordPress Themes panel, WordPress Update and from Dev4Press Updater own panel).

Install through WordPress Themes Add New

  1. Download plugin ZIP file to your computer.
  2. Login into WordPress Administration.
  3. Open Themes panel, Add New.
  4. Click on Upload option at the top of the page.
  5. Upload form appears, click Choose and select plugin ZIP archive from your computer.
  6. Click Install Now.
  7. Theme will be uploaded and installed, and you will get option to activate it.

Update through WordPress Themes Add New

WordPress installer can’t be used to update theme. But, it can be done:

  1. Disable theme you want to update.
  2. Uninstall the theme.
  3. Install new version using previous Installation instructions.

Install through FTP Upload

  1. Download plugin ZIP file to your computer.
  2. Unzip the archive, and you will get a directory with the name of the plugin.
  3. Use FTP client to content to your website FTP server.
  4. Locate ‘themes’ directory for your website.
  5. Move the directory that you have unpacked from ZIP archive to the ‘themes’ directory.
  6. Wait for upload to finish.
  7. Login into WordPress Administration.
  8. Open Themes panel and find the plugin.
  9. Click Activate.

Update through FTP Upload

It is the same as with installation using FTP upload. But, since the old theme version is there already, FTP client will ask you what to do, and you always choose: replace existing files.
