Frequently Asked Questions

After successful voting and refreshing the page, vote is gone

This is always the issue with the page cache. The plugin supports the use of cache plugins, but in that case, it needs to get current ratings through AJAX to avoid showing old cached page. The plugin includes Dynamic Load addon that will load rating blocks through AJAX. This addon is disabled by default, and if you use cache plugins, just enable this addon from plugin Settings -> Extensions panel.

Why reviews look broken or missing after installation?

When you install User Reviews addon for the first time, it may happen that new templates are not properly picked by GD Rating System Pro. To remedy that, simply open GD Rating System -> Tools -> Recheck and Update panel. You will see the update messages, and that will reload all available templates, and reviews should be OK now.

Where should I install plugin translations?

All plugins are using core WordPress functions to load translation files. So, there are two locations where translations should be stored. First one is the ‘languages’ folder in the plugin folder. But, you can also use a universal location for all translations: wp-content/languages/plugins. If this folder is missing, manually create it and store translation files there.

Can I translate addon to my language?

Yes. POT file is provided as a base for translation in the root folder for each plugin. Translation files should go into languages directory, and WordPress must be set to your language to load the file. The file name for translated and compiled MO file must be the same as POT file with the addition of language code: {addon-name}-{language-code}.mo.

You can check out this for translating plugins using POEdit program:

Why is tax added to the checkout price?

Various countries require a collection of value-added taxes for online sales. Some countries issue corporate use VAT ID, and if you use that ID during checkout, VAT will not be applied to the price. Here is the list of countries that require VAT (or sales tax):

  • All EU Countries
  • Canada
  • Norway
  • Iceland
  • Korea
  • India
  • Russia
  • New Zealand
  • Japan
  • United States (all states except for Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, Oregon)

From July 1, 2017, this list will be expanded to Australia and India.

The list of countries and states can be expanded in the future, depending the on the local VAT (or sales tax) laws.

What is Addon?

Addon is essentially a plugin that is used to expand other plugins. Addons are installed the same way as plugins, and they need to be activated from the WordPress Plugins panel. Addons are made for specific plugins, and addons can’t work on their own, without the main plugin installed and active.

How can I confirm that topic new/unread tracking is working?

Before you go on, make sure you have configured the plugin properly. Check out this article for more information.

To confirm that topic tracking for users is working (new topics, unread topics, and new replies), you need two user accounts: one to create a new topic, and the second account to visit the forum with the new topic to get to see the mark for ‘new‘.

If it is not working, check if the database tables are created during the update. Table name is ‘wp_gdbbx_tracker‘. You can run Tools -> Recheck and Update to make sure all is OK.

Can I limit users to own files in Media Library via TinyMCE Add Media button?

No. WordPress Media Library has no options or controls to limit access to use of files based on the user role. Also, all files uploaded through Media Library are publically accessible via the URL. WordPress doesn’t have any mechanism for limiting access to files in media library.
