How can I translate plugin to my language?

All Dev4Press free and lite plugins can be translated via WordPress.org and their translation services. Each plugin on WordPress.org has support for translation, and you can get to it through the plugin Developer panel. To translate plugins on WordPress.org, you need a WordPress.org account. But, if you want to handle translations on your own, each plugin has a POT file with the list of all translation strings. More information here:

Can I translate plugin to my language?

Yes. POT file is provided as a base for translation in the root folder for each plugin. Translation files should go into languages directory, and WordPress must be set to your language to load the file. As an alternative, translation file can go into wp-content/languages/plugins directory.

The file name for translated and compiled MO file must be the same as POT file with the addition of language code: {plugin-name}-{language-code}.mo.

You can check out this for translating plugins using POEdit program:

How to fix Thumbs Rating method up and down invalid values?

In few instances reported so far, the Thumbs Rating values have become invalid, showing million or billion high ratings. So far, we were unable to find the cause of the problem, but it was caused by something in the early 3.x versions of the plugin. To fix this issue, you need to recalculate the Thumbs Rating, and the ratings will be fixed.

To do that, open the Rating System plugin admin menu, go to Tools and open Recalculate Data tool. Make sure to read all the provided information there. Find the Thumbs Rating box, and enable recalculation for it. Click the Recalculate button, and wait for the process to run, you will see the progress information. Once it is done, check the posts that had invalid ratings to confirm that the problem has been solved.

Also, it is recommended to update plugin to the latest available version before doing this.

Does the plugin works with BuddyBoss Platform?

We do not support BuddyBoss Platform integration for any of our bbPress related plugins.

Dev4Press plugins for bbPress right now all require bbPress 2.6.2 or newer version, and old 2.5 versions of bbPress are no longer supported! BuddyBoss uses very outdated bbPress 2.5.12 (from 2017), and this means that Dev4Press plugins for bbPress will not allow activation with bbPress 2.5.x or BuddyBoss.

Even if the BuddyBoss gets updated to bbPress 2.6 or newer, we have no plans of supporting BuddyBoss with our plugins due to the changes they made to bbPress making proper support impossible.

This FAQ will be updated when something with bbPress or BuddyBoss changes in the future.

TLDR: Dev4Press plugins for bbPress can’t be used with the BuddyBoss platform.

Does this plugin replace wp_mail() function?

No.

Most email sending plugins start by replacing wp_mail() function in WordPress making it hard for other plugins to do anything related to email sending. GD Mail Queue plugin doesn’t replace this function (or any other WordPress function), and it is relying on that core function to intercept and determine if the email should be turned in HTML or added to the queue.

Does the plugin supports other REST API based sending plugins?

No.

All plugins that send emails to various services using REST API or some other API to connect to services, are always replace wp_mail() function making it impossible for my plugin to detect emails and work with them. Also, GD Mail Queue can’t use third-party plugins to send emails, because there is no universal interface for this that all plugins can implement and use.

Yes.

If you use BuddyPress HTML emails feature, it will work as expected, and GD Mail Queue will handle these emails without turning them into HTML. You can also use an option in GD Mail Queue to force BuddyPress to send plain text emails and GD Mail Queue will turn them into HTML emails.

Why when quoted, emojis (or smileys) are displayed broken?

This happens because WordPress by default is replacing all emojis with images. This is done so that emojis would work in old browsers. But, the JavaScript used for this purpose can slow down the website, and it is messing with the page loading only to show very old and outdated images instead of the pretty emojis most browsers have today.

The only way to avoid the problem with quotes and emojis is to disable WordPress emoji replacing. To do that, install one of many plugins available to disable this WordPress ‘feature’, like Disable Emoji from WordPress.org repository.

Some BuddyPress features break when I use BuddyPress Nuovo templates?

The problem is caused by the Italic BBCode due to the conflict with the Underscore templates system BuddyPress uses. There are two ways to solve this:

  • You can disable Italic BBCode (Forums -> Tools -> BBCodes -> Disable BBCodes) or,
  • You can limit BBCodes to the bbPress content only (Forums -> Tools -> BBCodes -> bbPress Only). If you do this, BBCodes will work only with bbPress topics, replies and forums.

Why updating GD Rating System Pro breaks the website?

This can happen if you are using GD Rating System Pro additional addons (like Multi Ratings or User Reviews addon). If that happens, make sure to disable GD Rating System Pro and all addons for it, and upgrade main plugin and all its addons, and reactivate them after the upgrade is done.

Can I get refund for purchased product if it doesn’t work on my website?

We want all our customers to be satisfied with all our plugins and addons, so, we offer refunds to any unsatisfied customers up to 30 days after the purchase was made. For more information, check out our Refund Policy. After 30 days, a refund can’t be issued.

And, in many cases, the plugin doesn’t work due to the conflict with other plugins or themes. In many cases, we can fix our plugins to solve the issue, but very often, the problem originates in the third-party plugin that we can’t fix, and in such case, you need to consult the author of the third-party plugin.

Why plugin’s JavaScript files are not loaded?

All Dev4Press plugins and addons require jQuery. But, they will work only if the jQuery is loaded with the WordPress proper Enqueue method. If you are replacing jQuery that comes with WordPress with some other version loaded from other location, my plugins will not function properly, and that goes the same for most of the other WordPress plugins that depend on the proper way for loading jQuery.

Why I am getting errors related to missing database tables?

Errors like this point to the problem with the plugin installation process when additional database tables need to be created. If that has not happened, it points to the problem with database access or something else related to the database server, but it is might be simply WordPress related issues preventing the normal update.

To check this out, open bbPress Toolbox menu -> Tools -> Recheck and Update. This panel will recheck and recreate tables in possible. If not, you will see the error messages. If that happens, you need to create tables manually (via phpMyAdmin, for instance). Here is the SQL schema for all 3 database tables plugin needs: Database Schema.

Should I use child themes included with the plugin?

Child themes provided with GD Knowledge Base Pro are not required. The plugin works with any theme, and child themes provided are examples to get you started with custom development in case you want to customise GD Knowledge Base Pro plugin templates. Using child themes is not recommended for non-developers.

If you want to add only styling changes, you can add your own custom CSS into your theme style.css file.

After successful voting and refreshing the page, vote is gone

This is always the issue with the page cache. The plugin supports the use of cache plugins, but in that case, it needs to get current ratings through AJAX to avoid showing old cached page. The plugin includes Dynamic Load addon that will load rating blocks through AJAX. This addon is disabled by default, and if you use cache plugins, just enable this addon from plugin Settings -> Extensions panel.

Why reviews look broken or missing after installation?

When you install User Reviews addon for the first time, it may happen that new templates are not properly picked by GD Rating System Pro. To remedy that, simply open GD Rating System -> Tools -> Recheck and Update panel. You will see the update messages, and that will reload all available templates, and reviews should be OK now.

Where should I install plugin translations?

All plugins are using core WordPress functions to load translation files. So, there are two locations where translations should be stored. First one is the ‘languages’ folder in the plugin folder. But, you can also use a universal location for all translations: wp-content/languages/plugins. If this folder is missing, manually create it and store translation files there.
