What is a child theme?

The child theme is a theme that inherits the parent theme. It is a starting point in theme modification processes that will not affect parent theme, and all modifications will go into the child theme. This way you can start with the parent theme and make changes to it by adding all changes into child theme. More about child themes you can find here.

Where can I see all attachment files?

All files attached in the forum are saved into WordPress Media Library. But, if you want to see only attachments, you can’t do that directly, since Library show all files saved. Toolbox plugin has own panel called ‘Attachments’ where you can see only files uploaded as attachments. You have there: thumbnail preview, name of upload, topic and forum where the file is attached and date and time. This grid shows all files. You can delete or unattach files. If file is unattached, it will be removed from topic/reply it was uploaded to, but it will be still in the media library for some later use.

How can I see errors logged for attachments upload?

All files users attach to topics or replies are stored in media library. But, before that, they are all checked to determine if they are allowed (size, format). During upload various problems can occur to break upload or corrupt the files. All these problems and errors will result in file not being uploaded, but instead an error entry is generated and saved and later displayed with the topic or reply, or in a log.

All errors can be seen on the Errors Log panel in the Toolbox admin menu. This panel grid looks similar to Attachments panel, but it shows errors for every upload problem. This can help you to debug problems with upload process. But, with GD bbPress Toolbox Pro 3.3 and newer attachments process is improved to show validation before upload, so that oversized files or files with wrong file type are prevented from upload, and this will result in less errors during upload, and less errors displayed in the errors log.

To configure logging process, you need to open plugin Settings -> Attachments panel. There you have a options group ‘Errors Logging’. This has several options. First option is used to activate logging process. If this is disabled, no errors will be logged! After that you have options to control who can see the errors. This is related to displaying errors in the topic or reply to inform about the errors on the front end. Normal users or visitors can’t see these logs, they are reserved for administrators, moderators and topic/reply author, and in the settings group you can enable or disable this.

Can I upgrade from Dev4Press free plugins for bbPress?

Yes. If any of these plugins (GD bbPress Attachments, GD bbPress Tools and GD bbPress Widgets) is active, GD bbPress Toolbox will disable them on activation.

Version 5.0.x of GD bbPress Toolbox Pro doesn’t disable the free plugins, and you need to disable them before activating GD bbPress Toolbox Pro. This will be addressed in 5.1 release.

Does plugin works with WordPress MultiSite installations?

Can I translate plugin to my language?

Yes. POT file is provided as a base for translation in the root folder for each plugin. Translation files should go into languages directory, and WordPress must be set to your language to load the file. As an alternative, translation file can go into wp-content/languages/plugins directory.

The file name for translated and compiled MO file must be the same as POT file with the addition of language code: {plugin-name}-{language-code}.mo.

You can check out this for translating plugins using POEdit program:

I have some errors important for my question. How can I add error log?

You need to get error log from your server, and you need to attach that file with the topic. Always make archive from the log (ZIP is preferred archive type), and never attach raw, uncompressed log, they can be quite big. If that doesn’t bring the size down, it is best to attach only partial log, especially when the same errors repeat all the time.

What information should I provide when starting new topic?

Each topic has extra fields where you need to enter information listed bellow.

  1. Plugin or theme version. For theme also include version of xScape Theme Framework.
  2. WordPress version. If you are using unstable beta or development version make a note of that in the topic content.
  3. Version of the PHP on your server. Enter exact version number
  4. Select correct topic type.

Do not use general terms like ‘current’ or ‘latest’.

Fatal Error – Allowed memory of size ### bytes exhausted…

This is a common server related issue and it means that your server is not giving enough memory for executing PHP script. This can be solved by increasing PHP Memory limit.

In some cases, server doesn’t allow setting memory limit over a preset hard limit, and such limitation can cause problems with some plugins that need more memory for some operations. In that case, you must contact your hosting provider for expanding the limit, or change host.
