The membership directory plugin WAS working great. The menu link took you to a page that showed all the members with a title on the page that said Members Directory. After updating the BBPress plugin, it no longer works. The link goes to a page that says Archives but shows the members list in duplicate continuously down the page. What needs to happen to get it to work? Should I run the Plugin Recheck and Update? Not sure what this does exactly, so don’t want to do something that will screw things up.
Thank you for your help!
See attached screenshots. My WordPress version is actually 6.1.1

ParticipantJanuary 19, 2023 at 4:36 pm #75128I have added BuddyPress Email Subscription and it does not work either. Trying to get help from the plugin developer now, but he is slow to respond. I did update my theme.

ParticipantJanuary 19, 2023 at 7:00 pm #75129It actually was the theme update that caused the problem. I reverted to an older version and it works now. The theme is ASTRA if you are curious.
Cheers!

ParticipantJuly 8, 2024 at 5:42 pm #78258Milan, have you had an opportunity to test with Astra? I’m trying the theme update on a staging site and the directory still duplicates down the page. I realize this is a theme problem, but thought maybe you may have found a work-around. Let me know. Thanks so much!

KeymasterJuly 8, 2024 at 6:47 pm #78263Hi,
Sorry for no info on this for so long. Astra is the problem, but the Astra team has not been helpful to sort it out. Astra has very poor overall support for bbPress, and things that work are patched and tweaked, but I have no idea how to do it with Members list page, because Astra has no documentation on what they did for other bbPress pages. Unfortunately, I was not able to sort it out yet. I will try to reach out again to Astra support and see if they are maybe now willing to help with this.

ParticipantMarch 31, 2025 at 5:41 pm #578901Hi Milan,
Any chance you’ve had any success with Astra support? They did add some code that worked for a while, but when I updated the Theme again, it went back to duplicating the membership directory down the page. When I contacted support at Astra, they replied the theme is not guaranteed to work with all plugins and left it at that. I think they were tired of me bugging them about this problem. I can’t change the Theme, unfortunately, because the client loves it.

KeymasterMarch 31, 2025 at 9:29 pm #578902Yeah, Astra is very hard to work with. I have seen more complaints related to bbPress in general, and I have not seen anyone having a relibale solution that always work. So far, I have not been able to solve this. Astra doesn’t like when plugins add pages they don’t know how to handle, and I have no seen other themes that are so difficult to work with.

ParticipantJune 9, 2025 at 4:31 pm #578979Milan, I have reached back out to the theme developer. After multiple emails with screenshots, code, etc., this is their response. :(
Hello,
I apologize for the miscommunication. I have identified that the repeating issue on “Members Directory” originates from a plugin with just 60+ active installations: https://wordpress.org/plugins/gd-members-directory-for-bbpress/.
This is a relatively new plugin, and it seems to conflict with the code we provided to fix the forum title. Additionally, it’s possible that this plugin is not fully compatible with the Astra theme.
I recommend reaching out to the plugin developer to review this information and implement the necessary fixes in their plugin.
I hope this addresses your concern. Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions.
Best regards,

Nothing has been resolved, so now I may have to find a new theme or never update it on my client’s site. If you have a solution, I sure would appreciate it. Thank you!

KeymasterJune 13, 2025 at 9:05 pm #578980Hello,
Yeah, this is nothing new with Astra. I know about 20+ clients that had the issue with Astra and bbPress (with or without my plugins, just plain bbPress) where things don’t work and require hacks in theme, and things don’t work always. Considering that bbPress (with or without my plugins) work with other themes, I think it is obvious some issue in Astra that they don’t want to investigate or fix.

KeymasterJune 13, 2025 at 9:11 pm #578981Just as I typed my previous reply, I have seen that there was new update for Astra, and I am preparing update to my plugin too, so I tested. And, it seems that something changed, as the Members page works fine.
I will release version 3.0 of GD Memebrs Directory tomorrow (it will be under new name: membersDirectory for bbPress).

ParticipantJune 16, 2025 at 5:07 pm #578984Hi Milan, thank you for updating the plugin. I realize it does work with the Astra theme if I remove the code in the child theme’s function.php file that they wrote to allow the Title to display on the pages. If I choose not to use Titles on my pages, it works fine. However, I prefer to use titles.
Can the membership directory widget be displayed on a page in the main content area and not the sidebar? It might be a good workaround if so.
I look forward to your reply. Thank you!
